Sicaran Battle Tank: The sexy looking one

Hello everyone, sat here in my work uniform with my laptop on my knee, which is really really hot by the way at 00:18 AM time according to my clocks, so that means its the best time to start talking about the Sexy looking Sicaran Battle Tank surely?
Ok, so the general consensus of the Sicaran is that it sits on top of the Predator pulling faces at it and being the in crowd thing, if you have a Predator then you are unfortunate because it's all about the Sicarans now, all the cool kids have them. But are the cool kids right, or just trying to look cool like everyone else, well I shall fetch the scalpel!

I am sure this is Miniature Porn... Oh well, I guess you can ogle

The Sicaran comes in as a Heavy support choice like poor Preddy at a mid ranged 135 points base, not bad for what you are getting in all honesty, I can see why this one is popular with its AV 13/12/12 too. Also it does have some accenting features, such as being a Fast vehicle and having it's very own unique weapon system with all the usual palava of a search light and such, meh its marine stuff.

Ok, so the Accelerator Autocannon should be the main reason you pick this tank, S7 AP4 48" range, 6 shots, Rending and Rapid Tracking. Quiet a list of things there, oh and on this tank it is twin-linked too, so yey for accuracy! Face value says it is a good weapon, long range and can be shot normally when moving 12" high strength with multiple shots and a platter of special rules. So why do I not trust it? Let's break it down a little further.

Rapid tracking means that my targets may never claim cover save bonus's from Jink, so enemies who jink whilst being shot by this thing get no benefit and take the unfortunates to the face. So my main target is something that can Jink right? So Flying Monstrous Creatures, Jetbike/ bike guys and Skimmers, sounds good so far. I can think of many armies where this would be an unfortunate sight to behold.
Can I skyfire? No. Ok, so the Flying Monstrous Creature thing is a bit out the window if they never come down, 2 hits (Average after re-roles) on 6's and then 3's to wound an average flying MC then followed by some armour save, usually 3+ or an invulnerable save of sorts sounds like too many barriers to go through for this weapon to be effective there.
Rending, ah! I see, I am meant to be shooting at Skimmers. Sorry for my thoughts on FMC's a moment ago, I thought units could be multipurpose for some reason never mind. So, yes skimmers. More precisely I am thinking of them damn Wave Serpents! I would love to kill them.
6 Shots, 3's to hit with re-rolls. looking at 5-6 hits, 5s to glance. Ok so I might not be killing one a turn with shooting, perhaps if I am lucky with the dice one turn, but another unlucky turn and I might not be glancing it at all, also things like being shot back at by everything in my opponents army is a thing with Eldar, the good old "Kill the one thing that ignores the shit tone or rules and special abilities all my pretty thing have". So take couples of these? I don't know to be honest.
I mean, they are good on face value, but when to take Wave Serpents away and replace them with things like Wraith Knights, Knights, Riptides and Centurions then these things are going to be twiddling their thumbs whilst trying to put some dent in the enemy. Ok, you can ROFL stomp venoms, and there will be enough there for you to shred for barrels of fun, just don't get haywired.

You have Sponson options, the usual, and Armoured Ceramite to ignore the Melta weapons, but 48" range on a 12" movement says who the fucks getting into melta range? And to buy sponsons, we have to consider moving slower so we can actually use them properly or even standing still. 40 points for Lascannons to be glued to the side of your hot model is a large points sink and sitting still means you are a bit more of a target to get to grips with. See Predator entry for more details. However, with the Lascannons, you can kind of up the chances of taking out tanks. A couple of HP's from the Autocannon and the finishers with the Lascannons, but you do now sit at 175 points.

It also is cursed with the Relic rule, so same story as Poor Preddy once again, but I will talk about Relic rules properly in a later post.

You could pick on the weaker units this game, and then the next one ignoring that there are other options, like poor preddy who can size up a fully buffed Riptide, or that a Fire Raptor (Review coming soon) can deal with them flyrants much better than you until you come across a Wave serpent you can smash into the ground whilst laughing in the Eldar guys face but besides that you have to be facing the correct targets for these things to shine, otherwise they are just 6 Twin-linked Autocannon shots on a tougher than average tank plinking away whilst not achieving much, I fail to see the justification in taking one of these in competitive play unfortunately.

HOWEVER! Omg, you didn't see this coming unless you scrolled to the end to see what my last words are, you cheaters!

One thing I want to say is that units should really (Although they are) treated on a "By them selves with no support what so ever" basis. So if you look at it from the angle of. This unit cannot kill something by itself in one or two turns bar probably them skimmers, that it my statement I will hold to about this unit, it has a brilliant weapon and stats and is cheap of what it does, but it lacks the sharp edge to it's knife to make it durable for multiple scenarios, shred all the skimmers you want cause them riptides in the next game are going to middle finger you all day long.
