Through the untold millennia Chaos has taken many forms and built it's way into my life. From the age of 9 I have been collecting Chaos Marines for my main army force, sometimes splitting off to collect some Lord of the Rings models and a little Tyranid force that is now kept in my boxes and here is my army so far.
Just fits on the Breakfast Bar, took a while to squish them in. |
A small warband of Khorne take a flank |
Where did the rest of the Berzerkers end up? Well stick around to see what happened to the blood lusting crazy guys.
Before 5th edition, Daemon Princes were a menace upon the face of the battle field, even when I was young I understood how cruel they could be.
Relic from the mighty days, old DP might get re-fashioned into Be'lakor soon. |
Yes, I was an Abaddon guy in the competitive scene as there were 2 lists that where breaking heads for Chaos at the time, Twin Lash and Abaddon. My own list was a hybrid of the two, with a single lash sorcerer in a rhino and a single unit of oblitorators to give me sufficient shooting and a decent back bone to my army, these three components worked separately, Abaddon taking the heat and bashing the heads of my opponents 'beat stick' after the oblits gave them some dakka and the sorcerer pushed them around a bit. Abaddon in his glory slayed many enemies and often fell upon his own blade in the end, unfortunately now the meta calls for cheaper alternatives in a codex that hates its own champions. Another relic till a new codex arrives.
Taking center field and looking good, Abaddon knows exactly what to do |
6th Edition did also say hello to a lot of new things, mainly Heldrakes.
Say hello to the Duo, who did start out as Black Legion and Night Lord aligned but found themselves bowing to the laws of Slannesh. These two hero units were called 'Screaming Birth' and 'Silent Death' as they plunged into any foe, besides Tom's Blob squad the eyes of my opponents would roll and they would lose models left, right and center. Only a few times have they been shot out of the sky's by either lucky 'many 6 rolling opponents' or dedicated anti aircraft fire. throughout 6th edition they supported my Slannesh Noise army that was based on ignoring all types of cover saves.
Later on, they came into support of my first Iron Warriors army, featuring as one of the main attacking forces with other air units. I would always send the Drakes in after two separate targets knowing that they could deal with what ever I pointed them at within a turn, if not then the 'sister' drake had it's next target ready for cleaning up the next turn. Simple really.
Also in 6th edition came Hull Points, which meant that you either didn't bring tanks or you brought AV13/14 tanks and nothing else. This also made these tanks really annoying and hard to destroy as the mainstream meta dropped melta spam completely for other weapons to knock tanks out Via 'hull point shredding' also with Oblitorators nerfed to the point of extinction it called for some drastic anti tank changes.
Havocs.
Also in this picture you can see The slannesh sorcerer top middle, my first Chaos Lord, left and my latest 'back line' sorcerer right. |
The Bezerkers unfortunately ended up in employment of my Flawless Host Warband taking up sonic blasters that may have took a little 'convincing' from the Warbands leader, currently indisposed from being such a fragile model.
The Sonic squad on the left seem to be wearing Helms from a different patron, I hope Khorne forgives me |
Forge World models, dam you look hot! |
Bang, missed... Dam it! *Blows up* |
The vindicator never seemed to do that much special, but was a beloved first target for my opponents to try and crack open, ignoring Abaddon completely, the fools!
They were not the only ones to receive 'hate' or neglectful thoughts from me throughout 6th edition. Meet my waste of time! Raptors.
Raaar! That's the fear test you just passed. |
Anyway, back to positives! During my rain of 5th edition and mainly beginning of 6th I sometimes played with a Nurgle army, based on having a good old laugh destroying things that couldn't kill me and getting crapped on by Necrons.
It was brilliant having 3 units of 7 Plague Marines kitted identically with 2 meltas and a power fist marching strong beside Typhus himself. They didn't see many battles but every one of them was fun -for me- and I was content with a win or a loss just as long as my opponent removed mountains of models relentlessly.
Typhus is probably the one model I have enjoyed painting the most out of my entire collection, which is saying something as it is quiet big at the moment, easily over 5,000 points. Typhus you lucky guy.
'Forging My Narrative' - GW's go to words
Forward Charge! Size always matters, I can see now why! |
Along side the Dark Apostle series was the Night Lords Series following the tail of Talos and company. So I took time out to create Talos and Xarl from 1st Claw.
Late 6th edition came with a distinct change in how I played Chaos Marines, as in all the Marines went out the window and were replaced with Guardsmen, Cultists and as much Aircraft as I could muster.
Imperial Guard Attack! The platoon and Manticore were going to be my main army segments however 7th edition ruined everything. |
Joining the 2 Heldrakes was my Imperial Guard Vendetta Gunship with it's 3 Twin-linked lascannons and its team of 10 vets who would jump onto an objective late game, this thing would provide heavy anti tank cover that my ground troops could not reach and knock out any enemy air units that could come my way - after the drakes had kicked it of course.
Completing '633' squadron was my Raptor, able to either focus down a single target (Depending on how your local meta interprets its rules) or knock on 3 different targets in a single round it can be a devastating unit to have to deal with. It also features in my current 7th edition army and carves through back line scoring units with ease.
Finally, a chunk of my force has been dedicated to the Iron Warriors novel featuring Honsu, Kroeger and their conpanions through the siege and titan battles of A Storm of Iron. This is one book I keep reading again and again because the characters are so likeable and cool, also the story seems a lot more realistic in my opinion as it is impossible unit about 40 pages from the end to determine a victor of the siege.
Hazard stripes are very hard, but rewarding |
Honsu's command Rhino features a banner |
It wouldn't be Iron Warriors without a Raider or Oblits in their colour. |

You taste good! |
Forward March! |
